How To Treat Bleeding Gums

How To Treat Bleeding Gums

Bleeding gums are mainly a sign of improper oral hygiene. When the bacteria in the mouth mix with the saliva and residual starchy foods, plaque, a sticky white substance is formed. Plaque constantly coats the teeth and gum line and if it is not removed daily by brushing and flossing then it begins to accumulate and eventually hardens into tarter. This leads to swollen and inflamed gums.

The gums become painful and tender and bleed at the slightest touch of the toothbrush. Gum infections, tooth infections and brushing the teeth too hard or with a hard brush can also lead to bleeding gums. If not treated timely, bleeding gums can lead to serious gum diseases such as gingivitis and periodontitis. Bacteria invade the gums and teeth and damage the bone and deeper tissues in the gums causing dark red, inflamed, painful and bleeding gums.

Best Ways Treat Bleeding Gums

Citrus Fruits

Citrus fruits like oranges, lemons and grapefruit have concentrated amounts of Vitamin C which is vital for healthy gums and teeth. Vitamin C has superb antioxidant properties which eliminate the harmful bacteria from the mouth and help in the repair and regeneration of the damaged tissues in the gums.

Citrus Fruits

It is best to get vitamin C from natural sources as the supplement form can erode the tooth enamel over a period of time. Besides citrus fruits you can also eat papaya, strawberries and mango.

Triphala Powder

Take a teaspoon of triphala powder and mix half a teaspoon of salt with it. Rub your gums with this mixture twice daily. Triphala and salt will work together to arrest the damage to the gum tissues. They will also curb the inflammation and stop the bleeding. For faster healing you should also swallow a teaspoon triphala powder with some water every night.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil has powerful antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antibiotic properties. Take a glass of warm water and add two drops of tree tea oil to it. Use this solution as a gargle and rinse your mouth with it two or three times daily.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil will destroy the infection and will alleviate the swelling. Once the inflammation is reduced the gums will automatically stop bleeding. However, tea tree oil does not remove plaque so it is important to remove it by brushing and flossing everyday.

Turmeric And Neem

Take equal quantities of turmeric powder and dried neem leaves powder and mix them together. Mix a quarter quantity of salt and store the mixture in a jar. Take one teaspoon of this powder onto your palm and with your clean index finger rub it gently all over the teeth and the gums.

Turmeric

Rub gently so that you don’t aggravate the tender gums. The powerful antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of neem and turmeric will heal your gums and stop the bleeding very quickly.

Black Tea

Brew some black tea and cool it a little. Rinse your mouth with the warm tea three times daily. Black tea will provide instant relief in the pain and swelling and will also reduce the bleeding.
