Heartburn is a sign of GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease) or simply known as ‘acid reflux’. In this condition, the acid generated in the stomach spill out and leaks back into the food pipe or esophagus. This leakage can lead to a bitter or sour taste in the mouth. Aloe Vera Juice

This natural juice without any additives is an excellent remedy to calm the irritated esophagus, but make sure to take the juice in moderation because high dosage can lead to abdominal pain, diarrhea and electrolyte imbalance.
The tea prepared by using ginger is proved to be the most potent remedy for heartburn. A cup of warm ginger tea can alleviate heartburn in 2 different ways. Firstly, ginger works as an antacid and secondly, it helps in calming the nerves and stimulates digestion. Moreover, it is a harmless herb with a wide dosage range.
In short, it’s safe to take ginger regularly to prevent heartburn from recurring. Ginger can be used in various forms such as ginger beer, ginger ale or as a root. If you prefer ginger ale then ensure that it has real extract of ginger and not just the ginger flavor.
You can prepare the tea by using thumb sized fresh piece of ginger. Allow it to steep in boiling water (8 oz.) for about 15 minutes. Drink this concoction 20 minutes before every meal to avoid heartburn.

Hence, it is an effective remedy in treating various types of digestive problems including heartburn. The cabbage juice can be obtained easily by using a blender or juicer.
You can get the best outcome by drinking the juice every morning before eating anything. Alternatively, cut the cabbage into small pieces and immerse them in a vessel containing water. Allow it to cook for approximately seven minutes. Now, add mashed potatoes along with a bit of olive oil. Consume this mixture to heal heartburn.
Sodium bicarbonate or baking soda is an antacid. It is one of the oldest and popular remedies for heartburn.
The excess acid is quickly neutralized in the stomach providing instant relief from heartburn. Dissolve baking soda (½ tbsp) in one glass of water. In case, you find that the dosage is working effectively, you can increase the quantity of baking soda.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Although it seems counterintuitive, many people suffering from heartburn swear by this home remedy. Apple cider vinegar is a highly effective way to get relief from heartburn.
The problem with a number of people is too little acid rather than excess acid in the stomach and hence this remedy works well in such cases. Mix apple cider vinegar (2 tbsp) in water (1/2 cup) and drink it once a day. However, stop taking it, in case you are suffering from excess stomach acid and you do not find relief from pain.
Almonds can also avoid heartburn. Eat almonds (about 3-4) right after your meals or snack to reduce the symptoms of heartburn. You can use it in varied forms as roasted, raw, salted or unsalted. Since it is not an infallible remedy, you need to keep a watch on the foods you eat as well.

Lemon Juice, Water and Baking Soda
This remedy gives immediate relief for acid reflux and heartburn. Add baking soda (2 tbsp) in a tall glass and fill about half of the glass with cold water.
To this add freshly squeezed lemon juice. Drink this juice as quickly as you can because it is the water and the fizz that will give you relief from heartburn. Sodium is produced in the system when you intake this solution.

The research conducted by the ‘Journal of Dental Research’ reveals that people suffering from the symptoms of GERD – gastroesophageal reflux disease experience relief from heartburn, when they chew sugar-free gum after a meal.
The study author, who is also a clinical lecturer in the London’s King’s College of restorative dentistry – Rebecca Moazzez says that the acid that builds up in the gut is cleared quickly by chewing gum. Due to the clearance of the acid the symptoms of GERD also improve.
Increase the intake of water, which will help in producing a kind of mucous barrier by the stomach. This barrier is not possible to create if the body suffers from dehydration. Therefore, make it a point to drink 1-2 glasses of water before every meal.
Wash one or two potatoes and without peeling them chop them into small pieces. Churn these pieces well in a blender and consume it immediately. Another option is to combine it with any of your favorite juice. Always, ensure that it is taken instantly.
Ground cardamom seeds combined with ginger, coriander and cloves is an effective remedy for heartburn. Yogurt based buttermilk will also give you relief from intimidating acids, which results in heartburn. Take yellow mustard (1 tsp) with water to stop heartburn instantly.
