How To Treat Bruises

BruisesA bruise is a mark on the skin caused by trapped blood under the surface of the skin. It happens when a part of the body is struck hard by something forceful and the muscle fibers and the connective tissue underneath get crushed without any break or cut in the skin. When this happens, the blood leaks from the ruptured capillaries situated near the skin’s surface. This blood has no outlet so it gets trapped in that particular area, causing a red or purplish mark which is clearly visible on the skin’s surface.

This mark is known as a bruise. Bruises are the result of bumping into something hard or being hit by someone or by having a fall. They are painful and the area where they occur swells up. They fade away on their own after the body breaks down the blood and reabsorbs it. Anyone can get bruised but people with a thin skin bruise easily. Also if one has certain diseases or are taking certain medications or are aged and have fragile blood vessels tend to bruise easily.
