An even skin complexion not only looks good, it also reveals a healthy skin. A healthy skin is even in color and is radiant. On the other hand, an uneven tone of the skin is known as skin discoloration. Skin gets discolored with patches of dark areas. It shows a lack of certain essential ingredients from the body. Melanin present under our skin provides color to our skin. It protects the inner layers of the skin by harmful ultraviolet radiations.
During skin discoloration, level of melanin varies in different parts of the skin. Also many times, skin gets discolored due to over exposure to sun rays for a longer duration of time. Usually a discolored skin does not pose any health issues, just that it appears odd. With a number of home remedies, discolored skin can be treated with ease.
6 Home Remedies For Skin Discoloration
Lemon is known to lighten the skin. It contains citric acid which also works as a great exfoliating agent. Squeeze out juice of a lemon and with the help of a cotton ball, apply on the discolored patches.
Let the juice dry. Wash with plain water. If irritation or itching occurs, apply a light moisturizer after washing the area. Skin usually irritates because citric acid present in the lemon dries out skin.
Tomato, Yogurt And Oatmeal
Tomato is natural bleach. It is mild and gentle on the skin. Oatmeal acts as natural scrub removing dead cells gently. Yogurt moisturizes the skin and keeps it soft and supple. Take a tomato and blend it so that it becomes a puree.
Add 2 spoons of oatmeal and half a spoon of yogurt to it. Now mix the contents together and apply on the dark patches. Let it dry naturally. After the paste dries off, wash with lukewarm water. Repeat the process on a daily basis and you will find the difference within a week.
Turmeric powder also helps in treating discolored skin. Turmeric also treats sun tanning. Take a pinch of turmeric and add a few drops of lemon to it. Now, mix them together and apply topically on the affected areas.
Wash after the paste dries off. This paste should be applied during bed time. Immediate exposure to sun rays after the application of this paste will aggravate the problem.
Baking soda is very effective in treating skin discoloration. Mix a little baking soda with a little water and apply on the affected area. Discontinue the use if redness occurs as a few people have very sensitive skin.
