When the mucous in the throat does not drain and keeps sticking in the throat then it is known as postnasal drip. The glands in our nose, throat, air passages, stomach and intestines are always producing mucous to keep these areas well moistened and lubricated. The mucous also helps to trap any foreign particles that may invade these areas and protects the body from infection.
Normally the mucous is thin and is continually draining down the throat from the nose and the nasal passages. Postnasal drip occurs when the glands start producing large quantities of thick mucous and this mucous instead of being expelled through the nose gets stuck in the throat.

Tulsi
Tulsi promotes quick healing and spreads an aura of well being throughout the body. Tulsi is full of medicinal values that precipitate recovery from innumerable diseases and ailments. Its antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and decongestant properties provide quick relief in the symptoms of postnasal drip.
Put to boil a cup of water and add ten crushed tulsi leaves to it. Boil for two minutes then turn off the heat. Allow the decoction to stand for five minutes then add some lump sugar to the tea and drink it without straining. Drink three cups daily for quick relief.
Rock Salt
This salt has innumerable medicinal values. It is rich in minerals and anti-inflammatory properties that soothe and heal the throat rapidly. Mix a teaspoon of pure rock salt in a glass of warm water. Gargle with this mixture. Let the warm water sit in the throat for a minute before you spit it out.
Use this gargle three or four times. The mucous will become thin and run down the throat easily. The inflamed glands in the throat and air passages will be soothed and calmed.
Ginger
Ginger has overpowering healing and curative powers because of its antibiotic, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It also abounds in antioxidants which not only detoxify the body but also enhance the immune system. Put to boil a cup of water.
Mince a big piece of ginger and add it to the boiling water. Add three or four crushed peppercorns and boil for three minutes. Then turn off the heat and after five minutes strain the decoction. Add a teaspoon of honey and drink this hot tea three times daily.
Cinnamon
Cinnamon widely used in confectionary has remarkable medicinal properties that are invaluable in curing and healing a number of diseases and disorders. Cinnamon has potent antiviral, antibacterial and antioxidant properties.
It inhibits the production of excessive mucous and clears the thick mucous from the throat. Mix one teaspoon of cinnamon powder into a glass of hot water and sip it slowly.
Cumin
Cumin has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties which reduce the swelling and keep the throat clear of the mucous. Boil a teaspoon of cumin in a glass of water for three minutes. Allow the tea to stand for five minutes. Then strain it and sip it slowly allowing the hot tea to trickle down the throat.
