Beneficial Cervical Cancer Treatment

Cervical Cancer Cervix is the mouth of the uterus and lies in the pelvic region of the body. The abnormal multiplication of cells in the cervix is called cervical cancer. As the progression of normal cervical tissues into invasive cancerous tissue is very slow there is time for the patient to avail treatment if she is diagnosed with this disease. Human papillomavirus infection, multiple sexual partners, HIV infection, smoking, early sexual intercourse, weakened immune system, oral contraceptives etc. makes the women vulnerable to cervical cancer. Abnormal vaginal discharge and bleeding are the common symptoms of cervical cancer.

Heavy bleeding during menstrual cycle or bleeding in between menstrual cycle, bleeding after intercourse, vaginal bleeding associated with weakness and light-headedness etc. warrant medical checkup to rule out the probabilities for cervical cancer. Timely treatments help to get rid of cervical cancer easily and help the patient to lead a normal and healthy life.

Treatment for Cervical Cancer

Surgery

The most commonly followed treatment for cervical cancer is surgery followed by radiation or chemotherapy. Depending upon the stage and condition of the patients, different types of surgeries are performed, such as lymphadenectomy, radical trachelectomy, radical hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. However, most of these treatments lead to infertility. Radiation and chemotherapy kills or prevent the cancerous cells from multiplying. Besides these conventional treatments, there are certain alternative treatments available such as meditation, yoga and raw vegetarian diet.

Raw Food Diet

Raw food diet is based on the principal that the food we intake should be unprocessed and uncooked. The food should include mostly fresh vegetables, sprouts, seeds, grains, seaweed, nuts, juices, beans etc. Raw foods provide antioxidants that are powerful enough to ward off the cancer causing free radicals from the body. Cooking destroys many enzymes, antioxidants and nutrients in the food and makes them unavailable for absorption by the body. Protein and nutrient rich foods helps the patients to keep up their energy ad strength to fight with cancer.

Yoga and Meditation

Yoga and meditation plays an immense role in reducing the stress and thus helps to combat the cancer. Techniques of yoga and meditation help the body to facilitate flow of energy towards healing and healthy life.

Lifestyle Changes

Patients should follow moderate exercise daily to keep up their energy and strength. Along with physical activity, rest is also vital and hence the patient should have plenty of sleep. Similarly, cervical cancer patients should abstain from smoking and alcoholism; as such things lead to more complications.

Green Tea

Green tea contains epigallocatechin-3-gallate, which is a polyphenol that modulates or arrest the cell cycling. Arresting the cell cycle provides time to repair DNA of the genetically damaged cancerous cells and thus prevent the progression of malignant cells. Hence, green tea has an immense role in controlling cervical cancer.

Turmeric

Turmeric is highly beneficial for treating cervical cancer, as it contains curcumin, which is a hydrophobic polyphenol. Curcumin induces apoptosis or programmed cell death and inhibits angiogenesis, which is the physiological process of formation of new blood vessels. The newly formed blood vessels in cancerous areas are harmful as they nourish the tumor cells by supplying oxygen and nutrients and thereby facilitate their growth. Thus, curcumin can block the growth of the cervical cancer.

Herbal treatments, yoga, meditation, nutritional therapy, lifestyle changes etc. makes the medical treatments more effective and it also increases the likelihood of attaining relief from cervical cancer.
