5 Home Remedies For Skin Abscesses

Skin Abscesses

The skin is an important part of the immune system as it protects the body against microbes and other foreign substances that can cause harm to the body. Any break or cut in the skin allows bacteria, viruses and fungus to gain an entry and cause infection. An abscess is a boil that forms on the skin as a result of bacterial infection which can be quite contagious at times.

The initial sign of an abscess is a reddened and tender area which later becomes firm and hard followed by the boil which grows and becomes big as it fills up with pus. The pus consists of bacteria, protein and white blood cells which are released by the bloodstream to eradicate the infection. Abscesses can occur anywhere on the body but they are more common on the trunk, buttocks, and the extremities. They cause unbearable pain which does not abate until the boil comes to a head and the pus drains out. If the infection is deep within the skin, then blood too can come out with the pus.
