Diabetes Mellitus is the disease name for which blood sugar is increased. Carbohydrate (sugar) metabolic disorder occurs due to insulin insufficiency. Insulin is a hormone which helps to lower down the blood sugar level by helping in the carbohydrate metabolism. Several treatments for diabetes are available but home remedies are the one with no side effects.
Home Remedies For Diabetes Are Given Bellow:
Black Tea
Tea is a very popular drink all over the world. Many of us think that only habituation of the drinking tea makes it very popular, but tea has many medicinal values because of its several active constituents. Research shows that tea polysaccharides (Acarbose) inhibit an enzyme called alpha-glucosidase. The enzyme alpha- glucosidase turns starch into glucose. Acarbose, alpha-glucosidase inhibitor reversibly and competitively inhibits alpha-glucosidase in the intestines. The inhibition of alpha-glucosidase decreases the rate of glucose absorption by delaying the carbohydrate digestion. Acarbose also have the ability to stop the development of diabetes. If anybody wants to reduce the blood sugar level then he/she should take unsweetened black tea at least twice a day.
Green Tea
Reduction of blood sugar can be achieved by using green tea and it is mostly effective in women. The Green tea extract contains polyphenols, tannin and caffeine. These active constituents reduce the sugar absorption in the gut wall and thus sugar cannot reach in blood circulation which results reduction of serum glucose level in diabetes. So after breakfast, lunch and dinner if anybody takes green tea, it definitely reduce blood glucose level.
Cinnamon
Cinnamon is one of the most ancient spices which lower the stomach emptying rate after consumption of meals. Therefore, they can reduce blood sugar level after eating. Cinnamon’s essential oils contain active components called cinnamyl alcohol and cinnamyl acetate plus a wide range of other instable substances which help to reduce blood sugar level by decreasing insulin resistance. The evidence of use of cinnamon in lowering diabetes is also found in the Journal of Diabetic Medicine. Use cinnamon powder as a spice in diabetic diet preparation which increase the aroma of the food and also controls the blood sugar level.
Fenugreek Powder
Fenugreek dried seeds are well known spice in India. Fenugreek leaves and seeds are strongly aromatic and flavorful. Fenugreek has an unusual amino acid (4HO-Ile) which has anti-diabetic properties such as enhancing insulin secretion under hyperglycemic conditions, and increasing insulin sensitivity. Soak fenugreek seeds in water for overnight and drink the extracted fluid next morning which help to reduce blood glucose level.
Berries
Two types of berries are mostly available in market, black berries and blue berries. Both the berries are having anti-diabetic effect. Blackberries contain high fibers. Fiber can help lower your blood sugar by slowing the digestive process and delaying the gastric emptying time. Blueberry is also known as “diabetes super-food”. Blueberries are packed with nutrients, such as fiber and antioxidant vitamins, which provide several key benefits for dealing with diabetes. Blueberry increases body’s sensitivity to insulin and thus manages blood sugar. To obtain best result take a puree of several types of berries. This slows the rate of absorption of glucose after a meal. Another traditional method is, by crushing the berry seeds and then dry it under shade and keep it in an air tight container for storage purpose. Take two spoonful of this powder in empty stomach at every morning.
Periwinkle
Periwinkle is a plant which has white and purple colored flower. It is very common in Indian houses. The scientific name of periwinkle is Vinca rosea. Traditionally, it is well known anti-diabetic therapy. It has vinka alkaloids and tannins which actually has the medicinal value. The anti diabetic result is obtained by taking of 2 flowers (10 petals) at morning before breakfast. It helps to keep diabetes in control. Uncontrolled diabetes can be controlled by Periwinkle flower.
Bitter Melon
Bitter melon can reduce blood sugar level by blocking the absorption of sugars from the gastrointestinal tract. It also suppresses appetite which is similar to the effect of insulin in the brain. Bitter melon is available as dried herb, tea decoction and fresh juice. Taking 3 to 6 tablespoons of bitter melon juice daily after breakfast produce remarkable results.
Apple
“One apple a day keeps the doctors away” this is so true for diabetic patients. The different phytonutrients of apples help to reduce blood sugar level. Enzymes like alpha-glucosidase and alpha-amylase are inhibited by the apple. These enzymes are helpful in breaking down complex CHO in simple CHO (carbohydrate) which help to prevent spikes in blood sugar. Consumption of one medium size apple approximately 15 minutes before a meal can decrease caloric intake at that meal by an average of 15%.
