Anxiety and stress go hand in hand. When normal feelings of worry take on an overwhelming and frightening aspect, they create fear and panic in the mind and normal activity is totally disrupted because of this unnatural fear.

Emotional instability can be very harmful for personal as well as social relationships and it can greatly interfere with work performance. When faced with tough and challenging situations or financial crisis or the sudden death of a loved one, some amount of fear and anxiety is normal. But when these emotions become disproportionate they create havoc in one’s life.

Irritable bowel syndrome, sleeplessness, fatigue, heart palpitations, headaches, loss of appetite and trembling are some of the resultant symptoms. There are several prescription medicines to address these mental health issues but they have too many and severe side effects which cause untold harm to the entire body.

Herbal Remedies For Anxiety

Chamomile Tea

This herb has several medicinal benefits. It is especially good for anxiety and stress disorders because of its sedative properties which soothe the nervousness of the mind and the stomach and greatly improve digestion and increase the appetite. It also improves the health of the liver and lungs and reduces the headaches. Boil a cup of water and add two teaspoons of chamomile to it. Steep for ten minutes then strain the infusion and drink three or four cups of this tea, daily.

Catnip

Catnip has unique qualities which are very good for stress and anxiety. This herb belongs to the mint family. It soothes and calms the brain, improves digestion and appetite and most importantly it reduces the tension in the muscles.

Once the muscles relax, the stress is eased away from the whole body. Boil a cup of water and add a teaspoon of dried catnip to it. Steep for ten minutes after which strain the infusion and drink three cups daily.

Kava Kava

This herb has been in use since thousands of years for its anti- depressant and anti- anxiety properties. Kava kava takes care of the most severe anxiety and stress related problems. The roots of kava kava have a mellow and soothing effect on the brain. They calm the agitation and lull the mind and the entire body into calm repose. Mix one tablespoon of kava kava powder into a cup of water and drink it at night before going to bed.

Passionflower

The stems, flowers and leaves of this herbal plant are used to relieve anxiety, insomnia and panic attacks. It is very effective in calming and pacifying the ruffled nerves and restoring the mental balance. Boil a cup of water and add one teaspoon of the dried herb to it. Boil for two minutes then strain the tea and drink two cups daily.

Skullcap

This herb has been used since time unknown for its sedative and anti-inflammatory properties. It acts as a tonic and helps to fight restlessness, insomnia and depression. Boil a cup of water and add a teaspoon of dried skullcap to it. After ten minutes strain the tea and drink two or three cups daily.
