If you are suffering from nearsightedness you must be having difficulty in focusing on distant objects. This is because when you are looking at distant objects the light is focusing in front of the retina and not on it. This is blurring the image of distant objects. You can have the problem from birth or you can acquire it during your school days or in the youth ages.
There are mainly three degrees of myopia such as low, medium and high. The problem can be cured by a kind of surgery known as refractive surgery. It can also be corrected by wearing glasses or contact lens. However, there are herbs which can rectify the problem of nearsightedness to some extent. Let us explore some of the herbal remedies for nearsightedness.
5 Herbal Remedies For Nearsightedness
Blueberry
It was discovered by accident during the second world war that blueberry worked very well for visual acuity of the eyes. These fruits are rich in antioxidants which protect the eye from free radical damage. The antioxidants are good for the nerve cells on the retina, the screen where images are focused. It can increase the blood flow to these nerve cells.
Increased blood flow brings more nutrients to the cells. This enriches the nerves and helps in faster production of a chemical called rhodopsin. This chemical is a part of the rod cells of retina that are responsible for detecting light. So while having blueberries regularly you can have an increase in the light sensitivity of retina of your eyes. So have a cup of blueberry juice every day to avert or improve nearsightedness.
Black Currant
This has emerged as a better antioxidant than blueberry because of its vitamin C content. It’s vitamin C content is more than that of orange. The combination of flavonoids and vitamin C protects the retina very well.
It also strengthens the rod cells of the retina. This makes the retina more receptive to light and thus the blurriness of distant objects is reduced to some extent. It is available in the form of tincture or syrup.
Horsetail
This herb can stop the deterioration of vision. If you have not yet caught on with nearsightedness you can have this herb to avoid or slow the onset of nearsightedness.
You can make eye baths with this herb. Soak a clean piece of cloth in this bath and place it on the eyes. With regular use this will rectify the problem to some extent.
Nettle
Nettle is beneficial for the blood circulation of the eyes. Increased blood circulation can reinvigorate the eye cells and make the eye more receptive to light. Improved blood circulation also makes the muscles holding the retina stronger.
This will help you to focus better on distant objects. So washing your eyes in a bath of nettle regularly will increase blood circulation in the capillary vessels of your eye and improve vision. This will alleviate the symptoms of nearsightedness to some extent.
