Stomach ulcers are caused by the corrosion of the gastric mucosal lining of the stomach. It is a bacterial infection. The Heliobacter pylori are a spiral shaped germ which burrows into the protective mucosal lining causing lesions or holes.
They weaken the mucous defenses and start destroying the mucosal lining of the intestines and the stomach. The excess secretion of hydrochloric acid irritates and inflames the lining causing open sores on the tissues of the duodenum, esophagus and stomach.
The major symptoms of the ulcers are acute pain and burning sensation in the stomach area. The nerves surrounding the stomach become inflamed causing severe pain and loss of appetite. Nausea, dizziness, weakness and blood in the feces are also some of the symptoms.
The pain can occur immediately after eating or it may take several hours. It is more active in the night, when the stomach is empty. Excessive smoking, certain medicines and diseases, stress and heredity are responsible for this disorder.
Raw bananas contain a compound that helps in generating mucous and cells that prevent the acid from corroding the mucous lining. They heal the ulcers and inhibit fresh ones from erupting. Mash one raw banana very finely. Mix it with one cup of curds and eat twice a day.
The burning sensation will subside after a couple of days. Ripe bananas too are an excellent remedy for stomach ulcers. They soothe the lining of the stomach and alleviate nausea and dizziness. You can eat as many ripe bananas as you want, throughout the day.
Since centuries almonds are considered to be very healthy for the mind as well as the body. Its potent nutrients have many therapeutic uses. Its alkaline property is of great use in treating stomach ulcers. Soak ten almonds overnight. In the morning blanche them and grind to a fine paste.
You can eat this paste or you can mix it with some milk and consume. Daily intake will reduce the acidic activity in the stomach and provide essential nutrition that will heal the ulcers.
Poppy seeds have a vast number of medicinal uses. They are very rich in calcium and nutritive content and are superb coolants. They soothe and heal the inflamed mucous lining, eliminate pain and promote a sense of well being.
Soak two teaspoons of poppy seeds and one teaspoon of raisins in the night. Next morning grind them to a fine paste. Eat this delectable paste every morning on an empty stomach. You can keep eating it even after you are cured for general health and well being.
Cabbage has anti-irritant and antibiotic properties. It is rich in glutamine which is essential for the health of the stomach and intestines. Shred one cup of cabbage and boil it in two cups of water.
Boil till water is reduced to half. Strain and drink this water. Drink three cups daily. All the uncomfortable symptoms will vanish in a few days and the ulcers will heal nicely and properly. You can also prepare cabbage soup and have it.
Cucumber juice cools and soothes the ulcers. Its alkalinity heals the ulcers very quickly. Drink two glasses of cucumber juice daily.
