Loose motion is the inconsistent passage of watery feces as bowels due to stomach disorder or inflammation which may at times be accompanied by severe pain, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, fever and weakness. It is usually caused due to overeating, eating spicy or difficult to digest food, viral or bacterial infection, air or water borne diseases or even due to stress. In other words, it is a scenario where a large quantity of fluids passes through the large intestine than it can actually absorb.

Loose motion is easily curable. Although, there are several types of medications available to combat the issue, there are also side effects associated with these medications like constipation, flatulence, nausea, etc which makes natural cure the safest option. Also, natural cure is cost effective and most of the things used are normally found in every home and its kitchen.

Mint

Consumption of mint leaves soothes stomach inflammation and pain and gives relief from loose motion almost instantly.

For best results, mix one teaspoon of mint juice and another teaspoon of lemon juice with water. Not only is the solution tasty and refreshing, its consumption twice or thrice can bring stool movement into control.

Ginger

Ginger juice taken in small quantity at regular intervals stops loose motion, stomach inflammation and cramps as it helps in stimulating the gastrointestinal track.

Ginger can also be chewed in small pieces, either fresh or dry. If you’re munching raw ginger, make sure you don’t consume water immediately thereafter.

Butter Milk

Three to four servings of buttermilk mixed with a pinch of salt is a very effective way to cure loose motion naturally. This residual milk left after churning out fats from yoghurt contains good bacteria which is good enough to remove intestinal flora. Its taste is a bit tangy and keeps the body hydrated.

Pomegranate

Pomegranate which is rich in alkaline and contains astringent properties acts as an antidote for loose motion. Pomegranate juice works as a magic drink to those suffering from frequent bowel movement.

The seeds of pomegranates are also beneficial for the digestive system. Boil some crushed pomegranate seeds in water. Consumption of this solution keeps loose motion at bay.

Banana

Raw or green banana, due to its astringent properties helps in providing relief from loose motion. Boil and mash one or two bananas and add a pinch of salt.

The taste may not be appealing at all, but the results are surprisingly unbelievable. Pulp of fully ripe banana, mashed and mixed with yoghurt or buttermilk is also beneficial. Since, both are wholesome, they can be consumed as a diet for loose motion.

Indian Gooseberry

Amla is a very rich source of antioxidants. Amla taken in small quantities, either fresh, dried or as juice cures loose motion.

Besides, it contains loads of vitamin C which helps in maintaining the tissues of our digestive track. It is due to its goodness that amla occupies a very special place in Ayurveda and other alternative medications.

Guava

Guava, also known as poor man’s apple, works as a natural astringent which retains the bowel inside the stomach. It contains antibacterial properties which helps fight stomach infections that cause loose motion.

Guava leaves are also extremely beneficial for curing loose motion. Water boiled with a few leaves and a pinch of salt in it not only stops the bowel movement, but also provides a lot of energy to the weak body.

Carrot Juice

Carrot juice is another instant reliever of loose motion. A glass of fresh juice with a little bit of lemon juice and a pinch of salt works like wonder.

If it is difficult for the patient to digest the fresh juice, a mild soup can also be prepared by boiling and mashing the carrots in water with a little salt added to it for taste. Serving this soup in little quantity every one hour or two, not only provides relief from loose motion, but also provides a lot of energy to the body.

Tea

Tea contains caffeine and it is best to avoid it at this time. As an alternative, a cup of tea prepared with orange peel(source of vitamin C) can be given.

Another good option is chamomile tea. Due to its antispasmodic properties, it acts as a natural safeguard against stomach inflammation.

Stay Hydrated

Our body loses considerable amount of water during loose motions which is otherwise necessary to retain. Therefore, it is necessary to consume plenty of fluids during this period to restore the required water content of the body.

Apart from water(preferably boiled to avoid water borne diseases), liquid intakes like lemon juice, water with fenugreek seeds soaked in it, bottle gourd juice can be taken. It is also essential to retain the glucose level. A very good option is to intake saline water prepared at home. Mix a teaspoon of sugar and a pinch of salt in a glass of water. This water solution can be given whenever the patient is thirsty or at regular interval.

Apart from the above antidotes, proper rest is also essential to bring back the energy level to normalcy. It is also better to avoid any stress during this period.
