5 Simple Home Remedies For Nail Fungus

Share

When a fungus grows in and around the nails, nail fungus occurs. The fungus can affect the fingernails as well as the toenails. The fungi feed on the dead tissues of the outer layer of the skin and the hair. Fungal nail infections are more common in adults and occur more often in the toenails than in the fingernails.

People who spend a lot of time in public swimming pools, shower rooms and locker rooms easily get affected by this disease as the fungi thrive and breed in warm and moist places such as these. People who have a weak immune system are also liable to this disease.

Other causes can be nail injury, wet skin for long periods, nail disease and deformed nail. This infection causes the nail to become brittle and discolored. The nail also starts thickening and begins to crumble at the outside edges. Often there is pain and an embarrassing odor.
