How To Take Care Of Hair Growth After Chemo

Cancer is caused by an uncontrolled growth of body cells. Patients who have this disease undergo a very painful period during the treatment. There is lot of physical and mental suffering due to cancer. Chemotherapy is a part of cancer treatment and it causes a lot of hair fall. Some patients become bald due to hair loss. The treatment kills cancerous and healthy cells both. The treatment is very harsh for the hair and kills the hair roots. The condition is temporary and the hair re-grows once again in the next 3 months time. It may take up to 10 months for the hair to grow again fully. We will give some hair care tips for chemotherapy patients.

Following Are Some Useful Tips On How To Take Care Of Hair Growth After Chemo:

Take Protein Rich Diet

Protein is an important nutrient that helps hair in growing well. Include protein rich foods in your diet. Vegetarians can get protein by eating beans and lentils. Non-vegetarian people should increase the intake of eggs and meat.

Take Vitamin Rich Diet

Taking some types of vitamins helps the hair in growing very fast. It includes Vitamin B, C, E and biotin. Eat foods that contain these vitamins or take supplements of these vitamins. Vitamins are important for increasing circulation in scalp and making the hair follicles healthy.

Do Gentle Brushing

The hair that grows after chemotherapy becomes weak and fragile. The hair tends to break easily. The hair is lacking in protein. Applying pressure on hair or doing harsh brushing can damage the hair further. So comb and brush the hair very softly and gently. Avoid harsh brushing and don’t put force on hair.

Wash Hair With Cold Water

Very hot water is harmful for the hair. Instead of washing the hair with hot water, you should wash hair using cold water. Water at very high temperature causes harm to hair follicles. Thus, avoid hot water for washing the hair.

Use Shampoos with Plant Oils

Harsh shampoos that have sulfates are very harmful for hair after the chemotherapy treatment. Avoid such shampoos. It is best to use shampoos that contain natural plant oils. These ingredients help in conditioning the hair. Choose shampoos that have jojoba oil in it.

Use Moisturizing Shampoos

There is lot of itching in the scalp after chemotherapy. It is best to use hair products that have moisturizer in it. Use shampoos that contain moisturizer. You should massage the scalp with lotion. Use moisturizing conditioners.
