Glomerulonephritis or glomerular nephritis is a disease of the kidneys. The kidneys contain tiny blood vessels known as the glomeruli that perform the work of tiny filters and remove the wastes and toxins from the body. Each kidney has more than one million glomeruli and when these glomeruli get inflamed then glomerulonephritis occurs. The disease damages the kidneys and they are no longer able to eliminate waste and excess fluids from the body.
Glomerulonephritis can happen own its own or it can be caused by underlying diseases like lupus, diabetes, infections and drugs. The onset of the symptoms is sudden and they are fever, nausea, loss of appetite, pallor, vision problems, breathing difficulties, swelling in the hands, face, feet and ankles, vomiting and vision problems. The blood pressure too becomes elevated and sometimes there is pain in the kidneys and excessive fatigue.
