1. Vitamin B2

Vitamin B2 or riboflavin helps in eliminating dandruff from the scalp. As vitamin B2 is water soluble, it cannot be stored in the body. If sufficient amount of foods rich in vitamin B2 in missing from your daily diet, prolonged deficiency of this B vitamin would cause dandruff. Vitamin B2 plays an important role in keeping the scalp healthy by facilitating oxygen uptake in the scalp skin.[1]

2. Vitamin B6

Dandruff can be a sign of vitamin B6 deficiency. Studies suggest that people with dandruff usually have low vitamin B6 level in the blood. Deficiency of vitamin B6 makes the scalp skin dry and flaky. To reduce excessive flaking of the scalp skin, take vitamin B6 supplements or eat foods that contain this B vitamin such as fish, organ meat, and starchy vegetables.[2]

3. Vitamin E

Vitamin E is usually used topically to reduce the dryness of the scalp, which causes dandruff. Break open one to two vitamin E capsules and rub the vitamin E oil on the dry and itchy scalp.[3]

4. Biotin

Deficiency of biotin, a member of the vitamin B family, causes dandruff. Biotin supports healthy cell growth. Biotin supplement seems to help in clearing the stubborn chronic dandruff. Moreover, this B vitamin promotes hair growth. To fight dandruff, you can take 6 mg of biotin daily.[4]

5. Vitamin B12

Deficiency of vitamin B12 can make the scalp dry and increase scaling of the skin on the scalp. As vitamin B12 occurs naturally in meat and dairy products, the risk of suffering from dandruff because of vitamin B12 deficiency is higher in vegetarians and vegans. When vitamin B12 deficiency is associated with dandruff, supplement containing 1000 mcg of vitamin B12 can be taken daily.[5]
