After the root has boiled allow it to steep on low flame for 5 minutes. Let it cool. Strain and pour over head. Allow the solution to sit on hair for 5 –10 minutes and then rinse with plain water. For darker blonde you may also try tea made from calendula and chamomile. Alternatively you may also try Oregon grape root in similar way.

Tea or Coffee: 4-5 teaspoons
Water: 4-5 cups

Although there are a number of herbs such as rosemary, sage and nettle that can be used to cover grey strands for those having brown hair but the most preferred options are that of tea and coffee as they offer strong and dark brown color. For dark brown color you just need to make sure that the liquid tea or coffee that you are using is sufficiently concentrated.
Just make a strong tea or black coffee decoction by boiling either one of them on sim flame for 10-15 minutes. Let the liquid cool. Strain and soak your hair in decoction for 20 minutes to half hour. Alternatively, you can mix coffee granules with your hair conditioner and apply to hair. Outer hard shells of walnut when boiled in water also offer dark brown color.
