5 Home Remedies For Snoring

Share

Snoring is a common physical condition which occurs in people of all ages. Elderly people tend to snore more loudly and vigorously. If there is any obstruction in the flow of air while breathing during sleep, it results in loud noises which are called snoring. When the air flow is erratic and moves through a narrowed airway caused by poor sleep or posture, the person inhales and exhales air with loud noises

Though snoring is harmless, it can result in poor quality sleep causing irritability and fatigue in the daytime. It also disturbs the sleep of other people in the room and prevents them from having a restful night. Vigorous snoring also results from too much loose tissue in the nose and throat which vibrates when breathing. Excessive snoring can deprive the vital organs like the heart, brain and kidneys of oxygen and thus impair their normal functions.

Tips To Cure Snoring

Sleep Posture

You should never sleep on you back. When you sleep flat on your back the flesh of your throat relaxes and becomes loose causing the airway to become narrow and breathing noisier. Sleep on your sides or your stomach. You will find your snoring is considerably reduced to a minimum degree.

Olive Oil

Take one teaspoon of olive oil with warm water before sleeping. Olive oil will help in the smoothening of the tissues of the nose and throat and help keep the trachea open. The tissues will no longer vibrate when you breathe while sleeping.

Warm Milk

Drink a glass of warm milk every night before going to bed. Add a pinch of turmeric powder and pepper to it. The turmeric will help clear any blockage in the airway and decrease congestion. Milk will give a protective coating to the trachea. Your breathing will be easy and smooth.

Chamomile Tea

Brew a cup of chamomile tea and drink it warm with a teaspoon of honey. Chamomile tea has a very soothing and calming effect on the nerves. It releases stress and induces sound sleep.

Basil Tea

Crush a few basil leaves and boil them in a cup of water. Boil for two minutes. Add a few pieces of mishri or lump sugar to sweeten it. Do not strain the tea. Drink this mixture before retiring. Basil eliminates congestion and keeps the walls of the trachea clean. Mishri strengthens the muscles of the throat and provides a clear passage for air.

If you want to cure your snoring problem you should stop imbibing alcohol or sedatives at least four hours before you sleep. Alcohol disrupts the smooth and easy tone of the muscles situated in the back of the throat. You should exercise regularly to keep your muscles toned and your body fit and strong.

Obesity is another major cause for snoring. If you are obese, it is imperative to shed weight. As soon as you lose weight your snoring will diminish or vanish altogether. Eat lots of citrus fruits and vegetables for proper nutrition and avoid heavy meals just before going to bed. If you are healthy there is no likelihood of snoring.
