Diet Tips To Treat Psoriasis

Low Obesity Diet

One of the primary requirements of treating psoriasis is to get rid of obesity. Obesity stresses the body and the skin. Psoriasis is characterized by an inflamed skin, and a skin that is already burdened with obesity does not heal well.  Obesity increases the Psoriasis inflammation by increasing the chances of the body parts rubbing on each other. Secondly, the cytokines found in the obese are also found in persons suffering from Psoriaris. The presence of cytokines in an obese person aggravates Psoriasis if that person is affected by this disease. Obesity also causes a number of cardiovascular diseases.

Carbohydrates

A diet that is low in saturated fats and simple carbohydrates should be taken. Avoid foods containing high amounts of refined sugar, white bread, commercial cookies and pastries, butter, lard, and coconut oil. Have foods rich in healthy fats such as avocadoes (rich in monounsaturated fats), nuts and nut butter ( rich in omega 3 fatty acids),  and fatty fish ( rich in omega 3 fatty acids). Indulge liberally in foods that contain healthy carbohydrates such as whole grain bread, fruits and vegetables, soy milk, and low-fat yogurt.

Anti Inflammatory Diet

Psoriasis causes inflammation all over the skin of the patient. Diets that are high in unhealthy fats should be avoided, as these encourage inflammation in different ways. High-fat diet increases contact amongst body parts, consequently increasing the friction between them, which results in greater inflammation. Unhealthy fats in the body retard rate of metabolism and oxidation of the body toxins.

Anti Inflammatory Diet

The adipocytes present in the fat cells generate adipokines that aggravate inflammation. Your anti-inflammatory diet should consist of less saturated fats and refined carbohydrates such as white breads and pasta, and commercial desserts. It should consist more of complex carbohydrates such as whole grain foods and lean protein such as skinless chicken.

 Alcohol Free Diet

You may have to give up on your favorite fix of whiskey or beer, as alcohol is considered as a psoriasis trigger. Studies from the University of Pennsylvania, the Harvard Medical School and Birmingham Women’s Hospital found that alcohol consumption, even 2-3 times a week, was responsible for the onset of Psoriasis. Moreover, alcohol may dangerously interact with the drugs consumed for treating psoriasis.

Gluten Free Diet

It is better for those who are allergic to gluten to follow a gluten-free diet even for Psoriasis, as foods containing gluten can trigger psoriasis in persons with gluten allergy.

Gluten Free Diet

When a gluten-allergic eats gluten, his/her immune system produces antigens in response to the allergy. This activity of the immune system can trigger psoriasis, which is caused due to abnormal functioning of the immune system.

Milk And Coffee Restricted Diet

Milk and coffee should be avoided by persons suffering from Psoriasis as they increase Cytokines in the body. Cytokines aggravate inflammation.

The casein in milk can trigger abnormal autoimmune activities in those suffering from Psoriasis. The histamines present in milk cause increased inflammation and mucous production.
