The first and foremost thing in a gastric diet is that the patient should fast. If it is acute gastritis, two to three days of fast may be enough, but if it’s a chronic gastritis, fast should be continued for a week or even more. Fasting effectively stops the intake of irritants and thus allows the stomach to rest and settle the toxic condition. Throughout the fasting period the patient is either given warm water or fruit juices, which makes the elimination of toxins faster.
