Scabies is a skin disease caused by certain tiny mites which burrow into the skin and there they breed and lay their eggs, causing a red and itchy rash making the skin red, dry and swollen. This skin disease is mainly caused by poor living conditions and lack of personal hygiene.
The rash appears in the form of tiny red spots that look like insect bites mainly on the elbows, around the nipples in women, near the genitals in men, on the wrists and in between the fingers and the toes. The constant itching makes one want to scratch away like crazy and when the skin is scratched, it becomes inflamed and crusty sores develop on it. This disease is very contagious and can be easily transmitted by direct contact or by using an infected person’s bed linen, clothes or other personal articles.
