How To Treat Malaria

malariaMalaria is caused by the bite of a mosquito known as the Anopheles mosquito. A bite from this mosquito transfers a parasite known as Plasmodium into the blood stream. These parasites cause malaria. Only the anopheles mosquito is able to carry these parasites. When the mosquito bites an infected person, the blood containing the parasites mixes with mosquito’s saliva and when the mosquito bites a healthy person, the parasites are injected into the person’s bloodstream.

These mosquitoes generally breed in unhygienic conditions and stagnant water. The symptoms generally occur six to seven days after the mosquito bite when the parasites begin invading the red blood cells. The symptoms which can range from mild to very severe are high fever, shaking chills, headaches, muscle and joint aches, fatigue, nausea, vomiting and sometimes diarrhea may also occur. If not treated timely, malaria can become life threatening by disrupting the blood supply to the vital organs like the kidneys, brain and liver.
