Bursitis occurs when the bursae which act as shock absorbers and cushion the impact of pressure and strain between the muscles, bones, joints and other surfaces in the body that constantly rub against each other become inflamed. Every bursa contains a lining of synovial cells which produce a viscous fluid known as the synovial fluid which absorbs the friction of movement and acts as a cushion. Bursitis though an age related problem, can happen to anyone. As one grows older, the tendons lose their elasticity and are less able to tolerate stress and get torn easily.
This condition is mainly caused by overuse or injury to the joint. Repetitive stress due to activities like scrubbing, raking pitching or throwing, aggravates the bursa and it becomes inflamed and very painful. The joint feels swollen and tender and even the slightest pressure on it leads to excruciating pain. Rheumatoid arthritis, gout, and thyroid disorders can also lead to bursitis. The most commonly affected joints are the knees, shoulders, hip, elbow and the Achilles tendon.

The usual line of treatment for bursitis is corticosteroids which work quickly and reduce the swelling and pain but at the same time cause innumerable harmful side effects.
Turmeric has potent antibiotic, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties which can not only take care of any infection but can also reduce the swelling and pain. Mix one teaspoon of turmeric powder into a glass of hot milk and drink it twice every day.
Ginger is widely known for its strong anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties. Heat one teaspoon of pure ghee and mix one teaspoon of dried ginger powder with it.
Add some crushed lump sugar to the mixture and consume it every morning on a daily basis. Sometimes bursitis is also caused by infections which ginger can deal with rapidly and effectively.
Mustard oil has a plethora of medicinal values. It is not only rich in key nutrients but also contains potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties which eliminate all the toxins from the body, stimulate the blood circulation and provide vital nourishment to the tendons, muscles and the ligaments and keep their function intact. Warm some mustard oil and massage the affected joint for ten to fifteen minutes thrice a day.
Tulsi Or Holy Basil
Tulsi is overly rich in medicinal values which help to treat and cure a wide range of diseases and disorders. Its powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties strengthen the synovial cells and provide quick relief to the inflamed bursa thus alleviating the pain.
Boil a cup of water and add four or five fresh tulsi leaves to it. Boil on a low flame for a few seconds then cover the pan and turn off the flame. Strain the tea after ten minutes and drink three cups of it daily.
Warm some ghee and massage the affected joint with it for fifteen minutes, three times daily. Ghee will nourish the synovial cells and repair any damage to them. It will also ease the stress and pressure on the inflamed bursa and provide relief to the joint.
