How To Prevent Migraine

MigraineAlthough no definite cause of migraine has been detected, it appears that people between 10 and 40 years of age are most susceptible to it. This debilitating disability can ruin your schedule and your day by not allowing you to do anything, and putting you in considerable pain and discomfort.

While there are many temporary cures for migraine after it appears, it is always better to try and prevent its onset. Although the specific reason is unknown, certain precautions can serve to prevent an onset of migraine. These include a mix of changes in behaviour, eating habits, and ways to lead your life. Although everyone’s migraine prevention methods are different, there are a few general tips to help people suffering from it.

Various Effective Ways To Prevent Migraine

Caffeine

If you suspect that caffeine may be causing your migraine, avoid caffeine. This chemical is very good at jump-starting you in the morning but the method it uses to do that has been shown to cause migraines.

Avoid Caffeine

If you are a regular user of caffeine, slowly reduce the intake instead of abruptly stopping it, as caffeine withdrawal is also known to cause migraines in people. Although some pain killers with caffeine content have been shown to be effective, caffeine by itself is often responsible for migraine attacks.

Regular Sleep

One of the best ways to prevent migraines is to maintain a strict, healthy sleep cycle. Neither too much nor too little sleep is good for the human, and studies have shown that people with irregular and erratic sleep patterns are more likely to suffer from migraine attacks than people who maintain a regular sleep pattern.

Sleep well

If your sleep cycle is irregular, try to make sure you go to sleep and wake up at given times. This method results in less frequent migraines.

Stress

By far the most common cause of migraine is stress and tension in the body. Find methods to reduce and let go of stress. Sports, music, a few quiet minutes by yourself every day are all helpful in reducing stress.

Migraines have been observed to be linked to stress levels and people who are more stressed are much more likely to suffer from frequent migraine attacks. Meditation is a proven method to reduce and even eliminate stress in the body and is advised for all migraine sufferers.

Exercise

Controlled, regular exercise has been shown to reduce the frequency of migraines. It is advisable to warm up slowly, and be well hydrated before an exercise regimen.

Exercise

Exercise works by improving blood flow throughout the body and improving your mood, both of which have been observed to reduce occurrence of migraines. Remember to warm up slowly, as excessively strenuous, quick exercise has shown to trigger migraines as well.

Anti-Migraine Medication

Seen by some as a last resort, these drugs are available only by prescription, and should be taken under the strict supervision of a doctor. Most of these medications are known to have possible serious side effects.

Anti-migraine medication

One must take all precautions before using these pills. Also, since migraines are caused by different factors, the effectiveness of a particular drug will need to be evaluated for every person individually, which makes this a difficult procedure which should only be tried after all other methods of migraine prevention have been tried.
