How To Prevent Hepatitis

HepatitisHepatitis occurs when the liver is injured and the cells inside it become inflamed. The liver is the largest internal organ inside the body and it is supplied with blood by the hepatic artery which brings blood form the aorta and which is full of oxygen and the portal vein which brings blood containing digested food from the small intestine. The liver comprises innumerable lobules which consist of many hepatic cells which carry out the metabolic functions of the liver.

The liver not only detoxifies the blood by removing all the harmful substances from it but it also stores minerals and vitamins. Other important functions of the liver are to synthesize proteins and make amino acids, produce bile for the digestion of the food, maintain proper levels of glucose in the blood, produce cholesterol and convert glucose into glycogen and store it for energy. Hepatitis is mainly caused by viruses which damage the liver. It can also be caused by alcohol and other toxins and infections.

Ways To Prevent Hepatitis

Amla

Hepatitis is also caused by a weakened and malfunctioning immune system so the first step towards prevention is to strengthen the immune system and correct its functionality.

Amla

Amla is rich in vitamin C and innumerable polyphenols which not only scavenge all the harmful free radicals and expel them from the body but they also boost immunity and keep the function of the immune system correct and proper. Swallow one teaspoon of amla powder with a glass of water every morning.

Abstain From Alcohol

Alcohol is very injurious to health. It damages the liver and interferes with its functions of removing impurities from the blood, synthesizing plasma protein and production of hormones. Alcohol also causes inflammation and scarring of the liver.

Hand Washing

Washing Hands

The virus which causes hepatitis spreads through the fecal oral route that is the virus enters the body through the mouth. If a healthy person touches the hands of an infected person who has not washed his/her hands after visiting the toilette and then touches his/her own mouth or eats and drinks or handles food, the virus can be easily transmitted to the body. To prevent hepatitis, it is a good practice to always wash your hands with soap and water, each time after going to the bathroom and before eating or preparing food.

Reusing needles is a dangerous practice that increases the risk of hepatitis multifold. Besides hepatitis you can also develop other diseases.

Avoid Needles

Injecting illegal drugs with a needle that has been already used by another person or by using the same straws for snorting drugs can have serious repercussions. The hepatitis viruses spread with direct contact with contaminated blood or body fluids and using dirty needles can easily allow the viruses to gain an entry into your body.
