Sun poisoning is caused when we are exposed to the sun for frequent and prolonged periods. The ultraviolet rays from the sun can cause damage to the skin and sometimes burn the skin, causing scars and blemishes that are not only unsightly, but also painful.

Aloe gel has to be applied frequently and left on for the effects of sun poisoning to slowly diminish and the skin to start regenerating after the damage.

Yoghurt is a natural cooling and antibacterial agent. The skin that is sun poisoned will have blisters and burns and this can lead to infection if not careful. Take two cups of yoghurt with live culture every day to combat any bacterial build up on the oozing wound and also to improve the immunity as well.

After cooling the yoghurt, you can apply on the sun-poisoned skin. Leave this on and apply fresh coats as well every few hours to keep the skin cool and prevent blisters from forming on the skin. Yoghurt will also act as a natural shield against invading bacteria that can cause infections on the skin. Ensure that you use fresh yoghurt with live cultures.

Vinegar

Sun poisoning can cause stinging and burning on the skin and sometimes a fever can arise as the body has heated up. Vinegar can help reduce these symptoms and accelerate the healing process. Take white vinegar and apply on the affected skin with a cotton ball.

You may also attempt a vinegar soak by adding one cup of vinegar to a tub of warm water and soaking your sun poisoned body for half an hour in the healing solution. It is also important to test the temperature of the water by someone else before using it as sun poisoned people will tend to feel warm water as slightly cold due to the heat of their body and hence might be actually using hot water instead.

Green Tea

Green tea has many anti inflammatory benefits and also is antioxidant in nature. Green tea is also known to be a good remedy for treating radiation damage caused due to ultra violet exposure.

Take green tea 3-4 times a day and apply green tea on the affected skin after cooling it. This will prevent the formation of blisters and reduce the damage caused due to sun poisoning. You can continue taking green tea and apply externally for protection from sun poisoning.

Sun poisoned skin loses its pH balance and this will create problems in the healing of the skin. Baking soda can naturally restore the pH balance of the skin and create heal the skin that is sun poisoned. A warm soak can be prepared with baking soda that will help the skin to restore its balance and also in preventing burning and irritation of the skin as well.

For preparing the soak, take half a cup of baking soda and add to a tub of warm water. This can be used for soaking your body or the sun poisoned area of the skin for twenty minutes every day. Doing this every day will slowly help the skin to heal and finally the skin will be restored to normalcy.

Take fresh and organic honey and apply on the sun poisoned skin. Leave it on and reapply as and when needed. Leaving a coat of honey is also effective protection against bacteria and other foreign materials.

Chamomile is wonderfully soothing and calming and helps the skin to recuperate as well. For using this simple remedy, take a chamomile tea bag and brew a tea by adding it to a cup of boiling water. Cool in the refrigerator and apply on the affected skin.

You can use this for rinsing the skin as well. A chamomile soak can be prepared by adding 4-5 tea bags to a tub of hot water. Wait until the water turns lukewarm and soak for twenty minutes.

Potato peels are good for healing sun-poisoned skin. The juice of potato can be extracted after grating the potato and filtering it through a piece of cotton cloth. Apply the juice on the skin after cooling it. Potato juice will absorb the heat from the body and this will help in treating the sun-poisoned skin adequately.

Application of mustard oil is another wonderful way to treat sun-poisoned skin. Apply mustard oil on the skin and massage gently or ten minutes. This will remove the heat from the surface and put your skin on a healing track.
