Gingivitis results from poor oral hygiene and improper brushing habits. Plaque which is full of bacteria is constantly forming on the teeth and if allowed to accumulate, they begin to inflame and corrode the gums and the bone supporting the teeth. Aloe Vera

For centuries this plant has been used for its healing properties. It is always useful and handy to have this plant in the house. It can be easily grown, in a pot and does not require much care. Aloe Vera is anti-inflammatory, an antibiotic, and pain reliever.

Take a small piece of Aloe Vera and remove the skin. You will be left with a gel like substance. Rub this gel gently over the gums for three to four minutes or until all the juice is exhausted, thrice a day. The pain and swelling will subside. Continue this treatment till gums are healed.

Acacia Catechu Or Katha

Katha is the more widely used name for Acacia Catechu. It is used to treat a vast range of diseases. It has a special potency to stop bleeding. Take one teaspoon of katha paste. This paste is available at all paan shops. With a clean finger apply the paste on the swollen gums. See that the gums are properly coated with it. Keep for two minutes. Rinse the mouth with warm water. The bleeding in the gums will stop bringing immediate relief.

Alum is known for its antibacterial properties. Take half a teaspoon of alum powder and dissolve it in a glass of warm water. Rinse your mouth thrice a day. This will alleviate the tenderness and inflammation of the gums. You can do this once every night on a daily basis to keep you gums free from disease.

Turmeric is a powerful antioxidant. It fights infections and reduces inflammation. Mix fifty grams of turmeric powder, hundred grams of dried neem leaves powder, two teaspoons of alum powder and one teaspoon salt. Store in an air tight jar. With a clean finger rub this powder on your teeth and gums thrice a day. It will not only heal gingivitis but will keep your teeth and gums in excellent condition and prevent any kind of mouth diseases.



Guava is the most common and cheap fruit. It has antiseptic and healing qualities. The skin of this fruit contains more vitamin C than an orange. Roast a ripe guava on the fire. Eat it with the skin sprinkled with some salt and lemon juice. Wash and chew some guava leaves slowly. Let the juice penetrate the gums. The swelling will subside and bring instant relief.
