Shingles is a skin disease caused by the varicella zoster virus. It usually appears on one side of the body in the form of a narrow band or strip of rash. It mostly occurs in adults in whom the dormant chicken pox virus suddenly becomes active due to a weakened immune system. The immune system can become weak due to certain medications or diseases or due to undue stress or injuries.
Some medicines too can trigger the waking up of the virus which lies in a latent state in the nerve roots and cause shingles. The first symptoms are a headache, fever and sensitivity to light. Later there is itching and a burning in a particular area. A few days later, a band of rash appears in this area.
The rash develops into clusters of small painful blisters which fill up with fluid and start weeping. They begin to crust over after the fluid has oozed out completely. It takes several weeks for the blisters too heal completely.

Keep swabbing the extra liquid. Do this three times daily. Licorice has potent antiviral properties which will destroy the virus quickly and effectively.
Grind some cloves of garlic to a fine paste. Mix the paste with a little ghee and apply it to the blisters. Coat the blisters well with this paste and tape it to the area, if you can. Apply this paste three times regularly.
